Dress Silhouettes

{A-line}: Fitted through the waist, with a slight flare from the waist to the floor.

{Ball Gown}: Fitted, boned bodice with a full skirt to the floor, also named princess-style.

{Ballerina}: Similar to ball gown, except the length is mid-calf.

{Mermaid}: Fitted through the torso with a flare from the knee to the floor.

{Trumpet}: Similar to mermaid, except the flare extends from slightly above the knee.

{Sheath}: Completely fitted from top to bottom, outlining every curve.

{Empire}: Waist extends from under the bust line, flowing from the bust line to the floor.

 

Dress Trains

{Royal}: Begins near the waist, extending 12 or more feet at the floor.

{Cathedral}: Begins near the waist, extending 6 to 7 feet at the floor.

{Chapel}: Begins near the waist, extending 3 to 4 feet at the floor.

{Court}: Begins near the waist, extending 1 foot at the floor.

{Fishtail}: Begins near the knee, extending 1 foot at the floor.

{Sweep}: Begins at the bottom of the dress, extending 1 foot at the floor.

{Watteau}: Begins near the shoulder, extending at the floor to various lengths.
